An Excellent selection of trees suitable for bonsai.

Some tree species are slow growing, especially when grown in a pot at a nursery. This means they must be cared for for several years to obtain any size. This is usually a major factor in pricing. Some species however will grow quite fast when field grown. Field grown is a bonsai enthusiasts term simply meaning to grow the bonsai material directly in the ground to achieve faster growth.

Contrary to what many people believe, a bonsai tree is not a tortured and abused tree stuffed into a tiny pot. The opposite is true, the faster and healthier a tree grows the faster you end up with a suitable results as a bonsai.

Often a smaller younger tree will outgrow a larger tree of the same species planted in the ground at the same time. This is due to the fact older potted trees will go through a longer period of shock than their more resilient and vigorous younger siblings.
