This Koi pond is made of concrete complete with a bottom drain. The pond feeds over a baffle board under a bridge
on the path set up as a skimmer. It then flows down three falls and three streams into a man made earth pond which acts as
an oversized bio-filter. It has not yet been necessary to use the bottom drain.

The owners wanted this to be low maintenance and to blend with the surrounding environment. Note the clever disguise
of the concrete pond edge. This was accomplished with underwater overhanging shelves that act as shallow beaches for water
plants baby fish and pond edge disguising. The Cedar log is over 30’ long and is suspended about ½” above the
waters surface to avoid leaching tannin into the water.

The artificial rock canyon was made for placing a bridge across & to hide a “skimmer” baffle board.

This is the view where the trail crosses the water course a second time. Standing over the stream above the bottom
fall and looking up toward the koi pond /header pool. All native plants were used on the falls including Vine Maple, Service
Berry, Lady Fens, Maiden Hair Ferns and Chocolate Lilies among many more. The landscaping blends it perfectly with it’s
surroundings.

The fall is dwarfed by the large plants. Note the size perspective with the person. (right)

Like real rock, the color changes dramatically when they are wet (left) or dry (below)
