Common Misconceptions of Water Gardens

There seems to be a lot of people who would like a water feature but just wont have one installed for one reason or another. There reasons are usually ~

MISCONCEPTIONS

Mosquitoes

A few fish will eliminate mosquitoes and even reduce there numbers as many will lay there larva in the pond rather than a puddle where nothing will eat them. Check out this article for more. Mosquito Control

Predators will eat my fish

Gold fish are so cheap they are sold as predator food, They will keep your pond free of larva and the occasional snack you provide to the local heron will be much appreciated and the show will be well worth the $0.10. Brown goldfish or other dark fish such as Sticklebacks will eat every larval and are almost invisible to predators.

By making the pond to deep for a raccoon to wade (they wont use scuba gear) and making hideouts for fish with ledges plants and rock, they are quite safe.

Algae

With   murky water algae is no longer a problem. You may have to remove some string algae manually which is about all you have to do with a properly constructed water feature. Algae Problems?

Cement cracks

Properly constructed concrete ponds will outlast any other available materials. If a pond does develop a crack, there are new products available today like never before to repair the problem.

Expensive

Certain designs can be constructed to completion for the same as you would spend just for the initial purchase of real rocks. WATER FEATURE PACKAGES

Child danger

Water features can be designed to sit on a bed of stones that represent a pond without the danger of deep water.

Sound

A waterfall can be “tuned” to make any range of water noise you desire and the volume can be controlled with adjustable output pumps for drowning out traffic or adding ambience to a conversation.

To Much Maintenance

***Auto fillers eliminate the need to refill for evaporation,

***Skimmers reduce cleaning more than you think ~ most debris that lands on the waters surface floats long enough for the skimmer to remove it before it sinks thereby not only keeping the surface clean but also greatly reducing the need to drain and clean the pond.

*** By adding a sump, the empty and clean process becomes a much easier task.

*** A properly designed water feature is less maintenance than a lawn.
